Children To Sponsor
Lingey lives in Cambodia with her mother, father, and 14-year-old sister. Her mother is a housewife and an excellent cook. Her father currently works at a recycling company, doing physically demanding labor. He previously worked on an AMA Waterways cruise ship until the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted operations. Now, he works hard to ensure the recycling company has enough business to keep him employed. When work is scarce, he searches for other jobs to help support his family.
Lingey’s sister is in the 8th grade at American Bridge International School. She helps Lingey learn both Khmer and English at home.
Lingey is a bright and motivated student. She comes home from school every day eager to do her homework. She enjoys all her subjects—especially Math—but finds reading and writing a bit more challenging. In her free time, Lingey loves playing sports like soccer and badminton.
Her family attends KingdomCity Church. Lingey's prayer request is for strength and protection from God.
When I met Lingey’s father, Phalia, on the ship, he shared that he and his wife were teaching their children about God at home while he was away. This deeply impressed me and led me to keep in touch with him—even though his English is limited and my Khmer is non-existent.
UPDATE: Lingey is currently in the third grade but she could not pass New Life School third grade test. She will test again and see if she can enter and repeat second grade. If she cannot pass the second grade test she will try and be placed in first grade.
Chivong is a 14 year old boy whose parents are divorced. He lives with his grandparents since his mother has abandoned the family and his father has a new wife. His father earns a living by collecting recyclables.
Chivong has two sisters, one who attends New Life School. They live intermittently with Chivong and the grandparents.
He enjoys football and he wants to have a good job in the future. His favorite food is chicken and burgers, and pizza.
Chivong yearned to learn English and is now enrolled at New Life Church taking English class daily. He was so excited and grateful to have the opportunity to enroll and seldom misses class.
